When and where is ITMA 2027?

ITMA, the textile and garment technology exhibition held every four years in Europe, is heading back to Germany. According to the organiser, ITMA 2027 will run from 16 to 22 September 2027 at the Messegelände Hannover exhibition grounds. The seven-day show returns to Hannover after more than three decades.

The exhibition is owned by CEMATEX, the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers, which brings together the national textile machinery associations of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It is organised by ITMA Services, headquartered in Brussels with a subsidiary in Singapore. The sector plan, press releases and registration announcements are published on the official ITMA website.

The sector plan in numbers

ITMA unveiled its sector plan in a press release dated 5 August 2026. The show will occupy 12 halls covering more than 180,000 square metres and will be organised into 20 sectors, ranging from spinning to finishing, software and automation, recycling, and fibres, yarns and fabrics. By that date, more than 1,500 companies from 43 countries had secured their participation.

  • Manufacturers represented by the nine CEMATEX national associations accounted for 43% of applicants and over 60% of the space booked so far.
  • Manufacturers from outside Europe made up more than half of all applicants and around 40% of booked space.
  • China leads international participation, followed by India, Türkiye and Japan.
  • Applications for the CEMATEX-funded Start-Up Valley doubled compared with the previous edition, with 64 young companies competing for 20 spaces.

For reference, ITMA reports that the 2023 edition in Milan brought together more than 1,700 exhibitors from 47 countries.

Recycling, nonwovens and textile machinery: where to find what

Recycling

The organiser says the recycling sector is gaining momentum, driven by regulatory initiatives such as the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, and that advances in recycling technology are making textile-to-textile circularity commercially viable. In the August 2026 plan, recycling sits in the same colour group as embroidery, garment making, logistics, software and automation, plant equipment, services, research and innovation and the Start-Up Valley, shown in Hall 26.

Turkish suppliers are part of this picture too: Gaziantep-based Mıhçıoğlu Makine, which builds textile and plastic recycling machinery, has announced its participation in ITMA 2027.

Nonwovens

Nonwovens is one of the established sectors, alongside spinning, weaving, knitting, finishing, printing and garment making, that together take up the largest share of the ITMA 2027 floor plan. The sector plan groups nonwovens with spinning, winding, testing and fibres, yarns and fabrics in Halls 11 and 12.

Overarching themes

ITMA says the 2027 edition will spotlight advanced materials, automation and the digital future, sustainability and circularity, and human-centric manufacturing. The CEMATEX-supported Research and Innovation sector highlights collaboration between academia and industry. Because the organiser notes that the plan reflects the situation as of 5 August 2026, it is worth re-checking hall numbers closer to the show.

Planning tips for visitors and exhibitors

  1. Mark the registration window: visitor registration is due to open in March 2027. Registering your team early saves time during show week.
  2. Book accommodation early: according to an ITMA release from April 2025, Hannover offers more than 18,000 hotel beds, plus around 4,000 private rooms across the city and region. The organiser has appointed bnetwork to handle hotel and apartment bookings.
  3. Plan your transport: the same release notes that the grounds are linked to the city centre by two light-rail stations and offer around 39,000 parking spaces.
  4. Map a hall route: covering 12 halls in seven days is not realistic. Companies building or expanding a recycling line can start with Hall 26 and the fibres and nonwovens area in Halls 11–12.
  5. Prepare a technical checklist: write down the waste types you process (polyester, nylon, acrylic, cotton, carpet yarn), target cut length, hourly throughput, metal detection, blade life and sharpening, energy use, spare parts and service response times. Reviewing the data sheets of line components beforehand, for example the MCT60 guillotine cutter for fibre waste, makes side-by-side comparisons much easier.
  6. For prospective exhibitors: stand space enquiries go through ITMA's exhibitor portal; contact the organiser directly for current availability.
